Falkville hands Eagles shutout loss at home

SUMITON — The Sumiton Christian Eagles’ offense was held in check on Friday night, suffering their first shutout since 2015, 55-0, to the Falkville Blue Devils at David Campbell Field in Sumiton.

Sumiton Christian was held to just 151 yards of total offense in the contest, while Falkville totaled 510 yards on the night.

Trevor Stokes had 62 all-purpose yards for the Eagles, running for 55 yards on four carries, while catching one pass for seven yards.

Will Short led the Sumiton Christian defense with seven tackles, while Garrett Potts and Garrett Gable each recorded a quarterback sack.

Falkville scored on drives of 47, 52 and 65 yards to finish the first quarter up 21-0. The Blue Devils added a touchdown on a 57-yard drive in the second quarter to remain in command, 35-0, at halftime.

Falkville found the endzone three times in the third quarter on drives of 50, 65 and 37 yards to pull further ahead, 49-0.

A final touchdown was scored by the Blue Devils in the fourth quarter on a 69-yard run for the 55-0 win.

Sumiton Christian (3-3, 2-2) battles the hosting Lynn Bears on Friday in another Class 1A, Region 7 showdown.
