Faile takes new role at Corner

Girls head coach makes the move from JV to varsity

CORNER — Britani Faile has been a head coach at the junior high and middle school levels.

Now she will try her hand at the varsity level.

Faile was recently named the Corner High School head girls basketball coach. She replaces Jeff Smith who left to become the head coach at Huntsville High School.

Faile spent last season as the JV girls coach at Corner. She has previously coached at Pleasant Grove and Cullman. Making the move to Corner last year was an easy decision.

“I was happy at Pleasant Grove,” Faile, 28, said. “I knew one of the coaches (at Corner) and he had called me and said their was an opening. I went for the interview and they offered me the job. This is one of those schools that you don’t turn down. If you get an opportunity to teach and coach here, you take it.

“It’s just a phenomenal school. The kids are amazing. The faculty is amazing. It’s like that dream school. Everybody has that dream school, this is one of them.”

Faile, a 2009 graduate of Fultondale High School, played volleyball, basketball and softball at the high school level. After going to Wallace State for two years, she got her degree from UAB before getting her Master’s in Education from Samford University.

She always knew her career path would involve being a coach.

“There was no doubt, from the time I was little, I was going to be a teacher and a coach. There was no question about it,” Faile added.

She inherits a Corner High School team that finished 17-11 in 2018-19, losing to Hayden in the first round of the 5A, Area 11 Tournament. The Yellow Jackets face Mortimer Jordan, Hayden, Dora and Jasper in area play.

Corner loses four of its five starters from last year, including All-State player Jiselle Woodson.

With one year at Corner under her belt, she knows what to expect from her new team.

“The girls here love (basketball). They are great to coach and they are easy to coach. If you ask them to do something they will do their best to get it done,” Faile said.

“I’m very excited. I’ve been a head coach, but always at the middle school or JV levels. I’ve never been a varsity head coach. I guess everyone has to start some where and this is a great place to start.”

Britani is married to Drew Faile. The couple has a three-month old daughter Maddilyn.
