Elbert was a lifelong resident of Walker County where he owned and operated the Union Chapel Golf Course (now Valley Estates) for more than 30 years. He was a self-taught, self-made man. He graduated from Cordova High School in 1950 where he met his high school sweetheart, Willa Dean, who he married and remained devoted to for 68 years. His love of family carried over to his siblings, Garvie, Margaret, Julian and Francis. Talking with them and reminiscing about their earlier life together was a favorite pastime.
Elbert was preceded in death by his son, Randy Wayne and wife, Paulette Hyche; parents, Jesse and Stella Schiele Daniel; brother, Garvie Daniel and wife, Mary Frances Evans; sister, Margaret Weddle and husband, Herschel "Huss"; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Alldredge.
