Dorothy Carol Davis, 80, of Jasper, passed away April 14, 2020, at Manatee Hospital, COVID 19 Unit, in Bradenton, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Davis' maternal grandfather, James Gallacher and his wife, Jeannie Lang Gallacher, were brought to Alabama from Scotland to open many coal mines in Walker County and elsewhere. Gallacher named several mines after his children.
Davis' paternal grandfather, George Henry Davis Sr., opened Pioneer Bottling Company in Brookside, Ala., making and bottling "Coca Lula" around 1900; which was delivered in horse drawn wagons. Some time after 1917, George Davis became partners in the Jasper, Ala., Coca Cola Bottling Company and moved to Jasper with his children and wife, Ellen Davis. When Mr. Davis retired, his son, Lawrence Henry Davis Sr., Carol's father, took over the management of Jasper Coca Cola until his death in 1964.
Carol was an avid collector of Coca Lula bottles and Coca Cola memorabilia and was known for insisting everyone around her drink only Coke products.
She graduated Gulf Park School in Gulf Port, Miss., and attended Rollins College, Winter Park, Fla.
Carol owned several successful travel agencies and loved traveling the world, especially with her family. She had an infectious laugh, a zest for life and will be greatly missed by many.
Davis is survived by her children, William Tomlinson Watkins Jr. of Maui, Hawaii, Lawrence Paige Watkins (Wendy) of Austin, Minn., and Stephanie Elizabeth Watkins of Sarasota, Fla.; sister, Jeannie Davis Brandon (Stanley) of Jasper, Ala.; grandchildren, Drew Watkins Long, Jorden Lynn Watkins, Michael Ryan Watkins and Kristen Elizabeth Watkins; great-grandchildren, Aiden Thomas Steel and Hunter Zane Steel; nephews, Lawrence Stockton Davis and Robert Michael Overall; great-nephew, Ryan Stockton Davis (Julia); great-niece, Madlyn Renee Davis; numerous cousins; life long friend, Sandra Brown Saddler of Jasper, Ala.; and special caregivers of the memory unit at Braden River Rehab in Bradenton, Fla.
Davis was preceded in death by the father of her children, William Tomlinson Watkins Sr.; parents, Margaret Gallacher Davis and Lawrence Henry Davis Sr.; brother, Lawrence Henry Davis Jr.
