DORA — Second-chance points and a dominant defense proved to be the difference as Dora picked up a narrow 46-41 victory over county rival Carbon Hill on Tuesday night.

Dora led throughout the second half, but Carbon Hill stayed within striking distance the entire way, cutting an 11-point lead to five points with 1:19 left. The visiting Bulldogs had several chances to draw closer, but turnovers ended key possessions down the stretch.

Dora took a 26-21 lead into the half after Brent Geeter knocked down a long-distance 3-pointer at the buzzer. The home-standing Bulldogs started the second half with baskets from Jaymon Parker and Averiun Berry to push the lead to nine points at 30-21. After Carbon Hill cut the lead to five points, Dora responded with a 9-3 spurt. Berry made a shot, Geeter knocked down a 3-pointer, Parker added a putback and JaCory Woods added two points inside for a 39-28 Dora lead.

Carbon Hill’s Jon Michael Madison made a 3-pointer to cut the lead to 39-31 going into the fourth quarter.

Dora led by as many as nine in the fourth quarter. Dora was able to seal the win at the free-throw line with both Jamaal Harris and Parker knocking down a pair of shots in the final 1:02.

The teams were tied at 8-8 after the first quarter. Carbon Hill’s Braden Wright had six points in the period while Dora got points from four different players, including a pair of baskets by Knoxx Eustice. Dora went on a run in the second quarter, pushing the lead to 18-11. A pair of Isaac Woodard 3-pointers cut the gap to one point only to have Dora close the quarter with another spurt for the 26-21 lead.

Parker led Dora (3-4) with 11 points while Berry put in nine, Geeter added eight and Woods had seven.

For Carbon Hill (2-3), Wright had 12 points, Woodard and Carson McGinnis each had eight and Madison added six. Carbon Hill plays at Haleyville on Thursday and at Lamar County on Friday. Dora hosts Oakman on Friday..

Carbon Hill 48, Dora 10

Carbon Hill held Dora scoreless in the second half en route to a 48-10 road victory on Tuesday.

Carbon Hill (6-2) led 24-10 at the half and 40-10 after three quarters.

Lacey Evans had 17 points and seven rebounds for Carbon Hill, Allie Parr had eight points and five rebounds, Alayna Ivie had eight points, Gracie Wyma had five points and six rebounds while Abby Martin had two points, five rebounds, three assists and 10 steals. Bailey Kelley had three points, both Grayson Evans and Destiny Poff had two points and Ally Martin added six assists.

Meek 58,

Sumiton Christian 53

Caleb Aaron poured in 29 points to lead Meek to a 58-53 victory over Sumiton Christian in Arley on Tuesday night.

Meek (5-3) controlled the game throughout, leading 14-8 after the first quarter, 31-22 at the half and 46-35 after three quarters.

Payton Key added 11 points for Meek.

For Sumiton Christian (6-2), Isaiah Wright had 23 points. The Eagles host Addison on Thursday. Meek plays at Falkville on Friday.

Pleasant Grove 72, Jasper 42

Jasper suffered its fifth straight loss on Tuesday, falling to Pleasant Grove 72-42 on the road.

For the Vikings, Sheldrick Cherry had nine points, Ryan Thaler added eight, John David Harrell put in seven and EJ Colbert had six. The Vikings (2-5) return home for the area opener Friday against Mortimer Jordan.
