DME pet calendar returns for 2020

Posted

The Daily Mountain Eagle is excited to announce the return of its annual calendar project, with the theme for this year being beloved pets of Walker County.

The “2020 Walker County Pet Calendar” will be professionally printed and ready for purchase just in time for the holidays, said Publisher James Phillips. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Walker County Humane Society’s spay and neutering efforts

“This is a great community project that will help curb our pet population while providing a great calendar featuring our furry friends,” Phillips said.

Over the next week, the newspaper will be accepting entries from the public. The cost to enter a pet in the 2020 calendar promotion is $15. The promotion is only open to the first 50 applicants. The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25. All pets entered in the contest must be living and the photos submitted for the contest must taken in the last six months.

All entrants will be featured five times in the Daily Mountain Eagle and on its Facebook page.

The first printed display of the calendar entrants will publish Sunday, Oct. 27, at which time voting will begin for the Best Pets of Walker County.

The display of pets will publish again in the newspaper and on its Facebook page four more times over a two-week period.

Each time it publishes, the pet photos will be arranged in order of voting results from the previous post. (Actual vote totals will not be published.) Voting ends at 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8.

Votes are 25 cents each. Pet owners, family, friends and all pet lovers are encouraged to vote for the pets they like the most, Phillips said.

The pet with the most votes at the end of the voting process will be professionally photographed and featured on the cover of the 2020 Walker County Pet Calendar.

The next 11 vote-getters will also take part in a professional photo shoot and be featured as a Pet of the Month throughout the calendar year. The remaining calendar pet entrants will be featured on the back cover of the calendar. The winner of best in show in the recent Pets on Parade event will also be featured in the calendar.

The full-color calendar will feature a thick, high-gloss cover for durability. The cost is $3 per calendar, or five for $10. They should be available for purchase in early December.
