With summer hitting its stride in Alabama, back-to-school lists can now be found around the county. We are mere weeks away from getting back to school in Walker County. That return to school also means something else, possibly the most important to some, we are just that much closer to the return of high school football.

With summer hitting its stride in Alabama, back-to-school lists can now be found around the county. We are mere weeks away from getting back to school in Walker County. That return to school also means something else, possibly the most important to some, we are just that much closer to the return of high school football.

It’s been said that football is like a religion in the South, and watching the crowds at stadiums around Walker County on Friday nights, it’s oftentimes hard to disagree.

The Daily Mountain Eagle prides itself on bringing you the best coverage of local high school football and with the 2019 season fast approaching, we are going to take that coverage to the next level.

Introducing DME PrepZone and our inaugural title sponsor, Southern Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. It’s high school football coverage reimagined.

We are going to take social media video and use it to bring you closer to the game than we’ve ever done before. First off will be the award-winning, third annual PrepZone Walker County Media Day, this year originating from Five Loaves Bakery in Jasper. Join the conversation on Twitter and send in your questions to the coaches and players using the hashtag #AskPrepZone. Come down, enjoy some delicious food and be a part of the unofficial kickoff to high school football.

Once game week rolls around, watch every Thursday night as we release the DME PrepZone Game of the Week Pregame Show. Filmed on location at our area high schools, we will sit down with coaches and players to preview that week’s game.

Gameday itself is, of course, when all the action goes down. From the pregame pageantry, to kickoff, to halftime, all the way to the final whistle, follow DME on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for all of the sights, sounds and updates from around Walker County.

Nothing beats the passion of high school football in Walker County, and PrepZone is going to bring you closer to the action than ever before.

“DME PrepZone has been an idea several years in the making,” Eagle Publisher James Phillips said. “In each of the past few football seasons, we have improved our coverage, adding the ‘Playbook’ magazine, schedule posters, an audio game of the week and increasing the quality and number of photographs in our Saturday morning high school football coverage.

“This year, we take that to another level with the introduction of PrepZone. It is our goal that other community newspapers look to our prep football coverage as the standard. Our brand, DME PrepZone, is what others will want to emulate.”
