Delton Matthews, of Dora, formerly of Forestdale, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday May 9, 2018 at the age of 89. Mr. Matthews attended Corner High School. On April 23, 1949 he married the love of his life, Juanita Beavers. Delt retired from U.S. Steel after 35 years of service. At that time he began his own excavating company, where he helped redefine the appearance of Forestdale, by being involved in the construction of many businesses. He was a hard worker in the community, especially the churches. He was one of the many workers that donated many hours of labor for the building of Forestdale Freewill Baptist Church, where he attended for 43 years.
He loved to travel and spend time at his lake house, especially when the entire family would be there. Making great memories along the way.
Delton was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Alma Mathews; son, Michael Matthews; brothers, Arnold and Bob Mathews; sisters, Margarite Drummond and Dean Glenn and grandson, Bradley Glaze.
Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Juanita Matthews; daughter, Janice (Charles) Glaze; son Wesley (Lou) Matthews; grandchildren, Natalie (Jeremy) Hawkins, Kalan Matthews, Tyler (Lindsey) Matthews and Alan (Katie) Glaze; great granddaughters, Madison Hawkins and Emilee Glaze; and a host of many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be Monday May 14, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Mike Cox and the Rev. Jack Rollins will officiate. Burial will follow in McCormack Cemetery. Visitation is Monday from 12:30 until 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
