Curry boys win regular-season area title

Yellow Jackets host area tournament next month

Curry wrapped up its first regular-season area championship in more than 20 years on Tuesday night.

The Yellow Jackets earned a 52-36 win at Fayette County to claim the Class 4A, Area 11 title. Curry will host the area tournament starting Feb. 5.

Curry (15-6), which has won 12 of its last 13 games, closed out area play with a 5-1 record, one game ahead of Haleyville.

Against Fayette County, Curry held a 12-11 lead after the opening quarter. The Yellow Jackets pushed the lead to 27-21 after the second quarter and took a 34-28 lead into the fourth.

Colt Aaron led a balanced Curry attack with 12 points, Hunter Wilson had 11, Jakob Hicks added nine points and Luke Smith had seven.

The Yellow Jackets play Dora in the Walker County Basketball Tournament at Cordova High School at 6 p.m. on Friday.

Varsity Girls

Curry 57, Fayette County 50

Abbey Moon had her 12th double-double of the season on Tuesday, leading the Curry girls to a 57-50 victory at Fayette County.

Six different players scored points in the opening quarter as Curry took a 16-10 lead into the second quarter. The Yellow Jackets led 30-21 at the half and 41-37 after three quarters.

Moon had 18 points and 15 rebounds while Morgan Davidson added 15 points.

Curry (13-9, 5-1) finished area play tied with Halevyille. The area host will be decided by a coin toss.

The Yellow Jackets play Carbon Hill at 4:45 p.m. on Friday in the Walker County Basketball Tournament.

Varsity Boys

Sumiton Christian 50, Tarrant 44

Sumiton Christian pulled away in the second half en route to a 50-44 victory at Tarrant on Tuesday.

The Eagles held a slim 26-25 lead at the half out outscored Tarrant 15-8 in the third quarter for a 41-33 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Isaiah Wright had 17 points for the Eagles and Judson Laird added eight.

Sumiton Christian (16-6, 4-1) plays at Vincent today.
