Corner routs Dora in County Line Clash

CORNER — The Corner Yellow Jackets claimed the inaugural County Line Clash trophy and a vital Class 5, Region 7 victory on Friday night, 30-7, over the Dora Bulldogs at Corner. 

The Yellow Jackets totaled 297 yards on the ground, led by Garrett Purvis and Nicholas Brashear. 

Purvis had 141 yards on 13 carries with two touchdowns, while Brashear added 113 yards on 17 carries with three touchdowns. 

Quarterback Collin Daniel had 105 total yards, completing 4 of 7 passes for 80 yards and 25 yards on the ground.

For Dora, Averiun Berry had 141 all-purpose yards, completing 9 of 16 passes for 78 yards and rushing for 63 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown. John Collins added 74 yards on 11 carries and Taveres Howard caught four passes for 56 yards.

Midway through the first quarter, Corner took advantage of a muffed Dora punt return to set up its first score. Driving 17 yards on five plays, Brashear found the endzone on a five-yard run, giving the Yellow Jackets the 6-0 advantage.

Early in the second quarter, Corner scored after a seven-play, 80-yard drive, ending with a two-yard touchdown run by Purvis for the 12-0 edge, a lead that held through the half.

The Yellow Jackets took the opening kick of the second half and drove 93 yards on eight plays. 

Brashear took the ball in from seven yards out, leaving Corner on top, 18-0.

Later in the third quarter, Brashear found the endzone on an eight-yard run to cap a six-play, 58-yard drive to push Corner further ahead, 24-0.

Five plays into the fourth quarter, the Yellow Jackets scored its final touchdown of the game on a four-yard run by Purvis to end a 71-yard drive for the 30-0 lead.

Dora got on the scoreboard in the final two minutes of regulation after a 10-play, 87-yard drive. Berry scored on an eight-yard run and Brady Spradlin connected on the extra point kick for the 30-7 final.

The Yellow Jackets have won three of the last four in the series. 

Corner (3-3, 2-2) continues with region play next week with a road trip to Hayden, while Dora (3-3, 2-2) travels to West Point, which fell to 0-4 in region play with a loss to Jasper.
