Corner offense too much for SC

CORNER — The Corner Yellow Jackets posted two wins in a double header on Thursday, beating the Sumiton Christian Eagles 19-9 and the Pinson Valley Indians 5-4, at Corner.

Against Sumiton Christian, Ivey Hill got the win, recording five strikeouts and a walk in five innings. Anna Hinkle pitched one inning in relief.

At the plate, Jiselle Woodson went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base, Jaden Goodwin was 2 for 4 with three runs scored and a stolen base, Lauren Dill went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a double, Lauren Higginbotham was 2 for 4 with four RBIs, a double and a triple, Dakota Parker went 1 for 3 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base, Gracie Ashley was 1 for 3 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a double and Brantly Bonds had a hit with two runs scored, three RBIs, a double and a stolen base.

In the loss for the Eagles, Anna Calloway pitched three and one-third innings with one strikeout. Ali Hollis pitched two innings in relief.

Offensively for Sumiton Christian, Taylor Whisonant was a perfect 4 for 4 with two runs scored, four RBIs, a double and a home run, AK Tyree went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a double, Lindsey Holloway was 1 for 3 with two runs scored, Zana Aderholt went 1 for 3 with a run scored and Calloway had a hit with two RBIs.

Against Pinson Valley, Hinkle picked up the win, pitching six and two-thirds innings with four strikeouts.

At the plate, Hill went 1 for 2 with two runs scored, two RBIs and a home run, Shelby Sanford was 2 for 2 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI, Woodson had a triple with a run scored and an RBI, Higginbotham recorded a hit with an RBI, Dakota Parker had a double and Goodwin recorded a hit.

Corner (7-5) plays Mortimer Jordan on Tuesday. Sumiton Christian (3-4) plays in the Snead State Tournament today and Saturday.

Oakman 7, Carbon Hill 4

Katelyn Makemson pitched six and one-third innings in the area win for Oakman, recording two strikeouts. 

Kylie Bolton pitched two-third innings in relief.

At the plate for the Wildcats, Allie Barrentine went 2 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI, Alaisha Hubbard was 2 for 4 with a run scored, a triple and an RBI, Heather Thompson was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a double, Chante Williams had a double with two runs scored and an RBI, Makemson recorded a hit with an RBI and Iyana Canada had a hit with a run scored.

For Carbon Hill, Sarah Stovall pitched the final four innings in the loss, recording four strikeouts. Santana Clark recorded a strikeout in the first two innings.

Offensively for Carbon Hill, Alleigh Keeton went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI, Clark was 2 for 4 with a run scored, Makindle McGough went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Allie Parr recorded an RBI, while Abby Martin and Allie Parr scored a run each.

Carbon Hill plays in the Aggie Classic in Hamilton today and Saturday, while Oakman plays in the Calhoun Tournament in Decatur today and Saturday.

Winfield 16, Dora 4

In the loss for Dora, Kayleigh Patterson pitched two and one-third innings with one strikeout. Hallie Roberts recorded three strikeouts in relief in two innings.

At the plate, Callie Simmons went 2 for 3 with a run scored, two RBIs and a double, Ally Reed went 2 for 3, Autumn Smith had a double with a run scored, Tori Morrison recorded a hit with a run scored and Courtney Stone had a hit. 

Dora plays the hosting-Minor Tigers today.
