DORA — A week of adjustments to the depth chart and preparation paid off for the Corner Yellow Jackets in a 28-0 shutout of the Dora Bulldogs in the County Line Clash at Horace Roberts Stadium in Dora.

After both teams were nearly equal in total yardage at the half, 169-162 in favor of Dora, Corner’s offense and defense caught fire in the second half, totaling 391 yards to the Bulldogs’ 217.

Corner’s Colin Daniel had 225 all-purpose yards, connecting on 9 of 12 passes for 138 yards, while rushing for 87 yards on 13 carries with a touchdown. His top receiver was Chandler Brakefield with two catches for 58 yards. Brody Tavel led the Yellow Jackets’ rushers with 10 carries for 113 yards.

Darrien Wilkerson completed 5 of 10 passes for 114 yards for the Bulldogs, with his top receiver, Jamaal Harris, hauling in six passes for 96 yards.

“Our defense played outstanding all night long — keeping Dora out of the endzone like we did means they deserve huge credit. We keep playing like we did, we will be alright,” Corner coach Jon Clements said. “We need this win — our team needed it, our community needed it, our school needed it. We were in a lull and we had to come out and play good tonight — we did.”

Neither team found the endzone in the first half — though Corner’s Lane Gilchrist connected on two field goals, a 35-yard kick in the first quarter and a 19-yard kick in the second quarter to take a 6-0 advantage into halftime.

The Yellow Jackets turned up the offense in the third quarter, first on a seven-play, 70-yard drive, with Daniel scoring on a two-yard run. Joshua Myrick ran for the two-point conversion to leave Corner on top, 14-0.

Corner struck again later in the third quarter, covering 83 yards on four plays, with Marshall Burkett taking the ball in on a 14-yard run. Gilchrist’s extra point kick gave the Yellow Jackets a 21-0 lead.

The final score of the game came in the fourth quarter following a five-play, 86-yard drive, ending with an 11-yard touchdown run by Andrew Baker. Gilchrist connected on the extra point for Corner’s 28-0 win.

Corner (3-3, 1-3) returns home next week to play archrival Hayden in region play.

Dora (2-4, 0-4) also remains at home and in region play, hosting the West Point Warriors.
