Upcoming church happenings, gospel singings and cemetery cleanings/meetings will be featured each Wednesday and Saturday in the Daily Mountain Eagle, and daily on the Community Calendar at www.mountaineagle.com. Events are listed free of charge. They are listed by calendar date and time as space allows, so there is no guarantee when or the number of days an event will run. Events are only accepted from local churches, faith-based ministries or organizations, and cemetery associations. AUG. 19

Lamon Chapel Church will host a yard sale Aug. 19 from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the church. Breakfast and lunch. Lots of items. Proceeds will go to missions. For more information, call Linda Norris at 205-384-6599 or Lela Vicente at 205-522-7205.

Friendship Missionary Baptist Church at 45 Nichols St. in Parrish will host the 2017 Women’s Conference Aug. 19 from 10 a.m. through lunch. Guest speaker will be Dr. Felisa Washington, First Lady of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church (Acipico) in Birmingham. Attire will be denim and white.

Berry Civic Center in Berry hosts a Southern gospel singing the third Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. This month’s featured singers will be Southern Image from Plantersville, Miss. and the Busby Family from Berry. Admission is free. Love offering will be received.

Eastside Baptist Church at 1700 Viking Drive in Jasper will have an inaugural Red Back Church Hymnal Singing Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. If you are interested in singing in the mass choir on this night, practice will be at 4:30 p.m. in the main sanctuary. fro more information, contact the church office at 205-387-1406.

AUG. 20

Townley First Baptist Church at 228 Alabama Ave. in Townley will have its Homecoming services Aug. 20 at 10:30 a.m., followed by a fellowship lunch, and singing at 1:30 p.m. Matt Wilson will and guest singers will be Eagle’s Wing. Church’s pastor is Wayne Page.

Phillips Chapel Church on Empire Road in Empire will host the Reginald Reeves Memorial Hymn Book Singing Aug. 20 at 2 p.m.

Hunters Chapel Holy Church of Christ on Hunters Chapel Road in Jasper will have a singing Aug. 20 at 5 p.m., with guest singers, Made by Mercy from Tupelo, Miss.

Sumiton Church of God at 50 Hosanna Drive in Sumiton will host a Communion and Healing Service with Tommy Combs Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.

AUG. 21

New Prospect Baptist Church Sonshine Singers will be in concert Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. at the Carbon Hill Healthcare Center in Carbon Hill.

AUG. 23

New Prospect Baptist Church Sonshine Singers will be in concert Aug. 23 at 10 a.m. at the Shadescrest Health Care Center.

AUG. 27

Cedar Hill Baptist Church on Old Parrish Highway in Parrish will have Homecoming services Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. until noon, with lunch following services. Singers will be from the church and the Lowe Family from Tennessee. Guest speaker will be John Alexander Jr. from Tuscaloosa. No evening services.

Macedonia Baptist Church at 305 Macedonia Loop Rd. in Jasper will have Homecoming Aug. 27 at 10:30 a.m. Guest speaker will be Alan Hadaway and guest singer will be Pat Barker, bass singer with the Second Half Quartet. Lunch will follow morning service. Afternoon singing at 1:15 p.m.

Boldo United Methodist Church on Gray Road off Alabama 69 North in Jasper will celebrate its 115 years of ministry, worship and mission Aug. 27 at 10:30 a.m., with guest preacher Rev. Herbert Williamson. Luncheon at noon in the fellowship hall and afternoon singing at 1:30 p.m., with guest singers, the Lyons Family and Linda Bryant. Church’s pastor is the Rev. Lisa Aaron. Central Baptist Church at 900 Airport Rd. S. in Jasper will have its Homecoming Aug. 27, with worship service at 11 a.m., followed by lunch at noon and singing at 1:30 p.m., with special guest singers, Hope’s Journey.

Mt. Joy Baptist Church at 5640 Smith Lake Dam Rd. in Curry will have its Homecoming and Centennial Celebration Aug. 27, with worship service at 11 a.m., with Rev. David Miller preaching, lunch at 12:15 p.m., and quartet singing at 1:30 p.m. Celebrating 100 years of serving Christ in the Curry community. All community friends and former members are invited to attend.

Rising Star Baptist Church in Dora will be celebrating Men’s Day Aug. 27 at 3 p.m., with special guest, Rev. Frank Scott of the Calvary Baptist Church in Birmingham. The public is invited and dinner will be served following the morning service.

First Baptist Church at 2701 Corona Ave. in Jasper will celebrate its 133rd Church Anniversary Aug. 27 at 3:30 p.m., with guest minister, the Rev. Smitt Moore from Bethel Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. Rev. A.L. Harper is pastor.

AUG. 28

New Prospect Baptist Church Sonshine Singers will be in concert Aug. 28 at 10 a.m. at the Ridgeview Healthcare Center in Jasper.

SEPT. 3

Elbethel Independent Baptist Church at 2500 Elbethel Rd. in Fayette will have Homecoming Sept. 3 at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. with special singers, Exodus. Lunch will be served. David Wilson is pastor. For more information, call 205-270-9170.

SEPT. 8

Camp McDowell at 105 Delong Rd. in Nauvoo will host the 114th United Sacred Harp Convention Sept. 8 - 10. Around 200 singers from all over the United States are expected to converge to sing this historic music, which has deep roots in both Walker and Winston Counties. Visitors are welcome. SEPT. 10

Living Light Church of God on North Airport Road in Jasper will have a ribbon cutting ceremony for the church’s new sanctuary on Sept. 10 at 10:20 a.m., with refreshments following.

New Prospect Baptist Church Sonshine Singers will be in concert Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Cordova Health Care Center in Cordova.
