Christmas parades set across the county

It is a tradition for many families in Walker County to include a Christmas parade or two to their list of things to do during the Christmas holidays. This year’s list of parades will offer plenty of Christmas cheer.

The 27th Annual “Christmas In Nauvoo” parade will be held Saturday, Dec. 3, in downtown Nauvoo. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the Old Slick Lizard in Nauvoo and travel up Nauvoo Road through downtown Nauvoo.

The owners of Old Harbin Hotel in Nauvoo, Gene and Earline McDaniel, are also inviting parade participants and those attending to their hotel for a few holiday refreshments before and after the parade.

Those interested in participating in this parade need to be at the lineup location no later than 9:30 a.m. For more information, call Gene McDaniel at 205-697-5652.

The Chamber of Commerce of Walker County’s Annual Christmas Parade will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m. in downtown Jasper.

It is also being reported that Santa Claus may make a quick appearance at the Jasper Civic Center on 19th Street in Jasper, before heading out to ride in the parade.

Organizers with the East Walker Chamber of Commerce said their annual Christmas Parade will be held Thursday, Dec. 8, at 6 p.m., beginning at Dora High School, and they have invited any businesses, individuals and non-profits interested to participate.

The parade will proceed up Sharon Boulevard, crossing U.S. Highway 78 East onto Hull Road, turning right onto Main Street in Sumiton, proceed down Main Street to State Street and end at the Bevill State Community College’s Building 1200 parking lot, where awards will be given out for the following categories: business/individual; non profit (municipalities, churches, other); and antique and other vehicles.

The Oakman Christmas Parade will be held Friday, Dec. 9, at 6:30 p.m., with line up beginning at 6 p.m., at the Oakman Elementary School parking lot.

The Eldridge “Christmas In The Country” parade will be Saturday, Dec. 10, at 10 a.m., and the line up for this parade will begin at 9 a.m. at Eldridge Town Hall. All entries are welcome to participate, and a complimentary chili lunch will be served following the parade.

The Carbon Hill Christmas Parade will also be Saturday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m., and those interested in participating in this parade should call Carbon Hill City Hall at 205-924-9961 for more information.

Cordova and Parrish will both host Christmas parades on Monday, Dec. 12. Lineup for the Cordova Christmas Parade will be at 5 p.m. Monday at Cordova High School, with the parade beginning at 6 p.m.

Those participating in the Parrish Christmas Parade need to be at the old Piggly Wiggly in downtown Parrish by 6 p.m. The parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. Anyone interested in participating in the Parrish Christmas Parade can call Parrish Town Hall at 205-686-9991 for more information.
