Charges filed against CH woman for littering

Charges have been filed by the Walker County Sheriff’s Office against a woman illegally dumping trash alongside a road near Carbon Hill.

Addie Ann Brooks, 33, of Carbon Hill, was arrested Friday and charged with criminal littering.

According to the Walker County Sheriff’s Office’s Facebook page, a woman who witnessed Brooks dumping something along Ripley Cutoff Road posted a photo of Brooks on Facebook, and that caught the attention of Sheriff’s Investigator Chuck Tidwell, who quickly followed up on the case.

Tidwell found that Brooks had a dead dog in the back of her truck for about two days before going to a bridge about 75 yards from her home and using a piece of lumber to push the dead dog out of her truck and onto the ground.

When confronted by the woman who witnessed the crime, Brooks proceeded with the illegal dumping as if she wasn’t doing anything wrong.

“Volunteers and county employees have put in a lot of effort to help clean up this county where people have thrown their trash and other items out on the roadways. I’m thankful that the citizen drove up on her doing this, which helped us make a case on this woman. She will spend the weekend in jail and then see the judge on Monday for a bond.” Sheriff Underwood said.
