Chamber set to host morning business forum

The Chamber of Commerce of Walker County is hosting an informal “Doughnuts & Discussion” business forum on Tuesday morning at the Jasper Civic Center.

“This program is free and open to Walker County business and industry, local government and county leadership,” Chamber President Linda Lewis said. “The topic for the morning will be ‘Workforce Solutions for Walker County.’”

Representatives from the Workforce Solutions Division of Bevill State Community College will deliver a brief presentation on ACT: Work Ready Communities, followed by a time for questions and discussion.

Organizers of the forum said the focus of the brief meeting will be on how certain groups, including the Chamber, Bevill State and the Jasper Career Center are working together to improve the skills and readiness of the Walker County workforce.

“This endeavor is a framework for community-based workforce development to drive economic growth,” Lewis said. “This is a great opportunity to address questions and concerns on workforce issues that affect local businesses.”

The forum starts at 7:30 a.m. and will be held in the activity room at the Jasper Civic Center. A light breakfast will be served. For more information or to RSVP for the event, call the chamber office at 205-384-4571.
