Carbon Hill volleyball team takes ninth in Tennessee

The Carbon Hill varsity volleyball team placed ninth in the Rocky Top Classic in Gatlinburg, Tenn., over the weekend.

Carbon Hill, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A, went 4-2 in the tournament, which was won by Portland (Tenn.) High School.

The Bulldogs split a pair of matches on Friday and went 3-1 on Saturday, losing an elimination match to Musselman (W. Va.) High School.

On Friday, Carbon Hill played a pair of Tennessee high schools, beating Clinton (25-8, 25-8) and losing to Station Camp (25-16, 25-19). On Saturday, Carbon Hill defeated three Tennessee schools — Notre Dame (25-19, 25-17), Smith County (25-6, 25-16) and Dickson County (25-12, 25-11) before falling to Musselman (25-22, 25-21).

Alyssa Dutton led Carbon Hill (11-2) in the tournament with 40 kills, 17 digs, 11 blocks and nine aces, Lacey Evans added 62 digs, 23 kills, 13 aces, six assists and two blocks, Ricki Jill Burrough had 31 kills and 23 digs Molly Kate Atkins had 116 assists, 45 digs, 16 kills and 14 aces, Grayson Evans had 27 kills, 16 digs, five blocks and three aces while Heather Carmichael and 14 kills, seven blocks, three digs and an ace.

Abby Gibson added 21 digs and two kills, Abby Martin had 17 digs, Karlie Ratliff had nine digs and Kyla Beasley had five digs and one ace.
