Annual Valentine’s luncheon set for Tuesday

Posted

The Episcopal Church Women of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church will host their annual Valentine’s Coffee and Luncheon on Tuesday.

The event, a tradition that dates back 41 years, will be held at the church, which is located at 801 The Trace West in Jasper, from 11 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tickets are $12.

All proceeds are used to purchase food for the church’s food bank ministry.

The event will also serve as a celebration of the food bank and its positive impact on the community.

The ministry began years ago with church members giving food from the kitchen closet to a few dozen people a year.

In 2016, the ministry gave away more than 1,800 bags of groceries. Last year, the number increased to 3,549 bags provided to 620 families.

The ministry is supported by church funds, donations and a grant from the Walker Area Community Foundation.

The ECW has earmarked funds from the annual fundraising coffee for the food bank approximately five years ago.

Before that, funds were given back to the community through donations to local nonprofit organizations.
