Annie Laurie Black Barton, 96, of Jasper, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019, at Harbor Chase.
Graveside service will be held Thursday, August 1, 2019, at 11 a.m., at Oak Hill Cemetery, with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Dustin Murray will officiate.
Annie Laurie was born in Walker County on October 23, 1922. She was a 1940 graduate of Walker County High School. She was a clerk with Alabama State Unemployment Compensation. Annie Laurie was a member of the Worthwhile Study Club. Upon her marriage to Herschel J. Barton on May 3, 1950, the couple soon placed membership in Jasper’s First Baptist Church where Mrs. Barton served in many capacities during her nearly seventy years of loving and serving her Lord.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herschel Jackson Barton; parents, Jacob Perry Black and Nellie Sparks Black; and brother, James Elbert “J.E.” Black.
She is survived by her son, Wade Barton; daughter, Mary Nelle Tyrer (Larry); granddaughter, Laura Lee Johnson (Zach); great grandchildren, Anna Claire Johnson and Jack Johnson; sister, Gladys May Rutledge; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Harbor Chase for all the love and care given to their mom.
