American Legion to hold district meeting Saturday

The American Legion Woods-Smith Post 9 will host a District 14 conference at Bevill State Community College's Warehouse 319 ½ Cafeteria on Saturday.

Daniel Lawless, who works for the Department of Veterans Affairs for the State of Alabama, will be one of the speakers at the 2 p.m. meeting.

Lawless is a trainer for all of the Veterans Affairs service officers in the counties across Alabama. He also is an advocate for Alabama veterans trying to secure claims with VA. He will talk about how to open and process a disability claim and how to appeal a claim if it is denied for some reason.

Also on the agenda is Teresa Posey, who works at the VA Medical Center in Birmingham. Posey helps veterans in need of prosthetic devices and related services. For example, if a veteran needed a device or assistance building a wheelchair ramp, Posey’s office could help veterans secure those services.

American Legion District 14 Adjutant Jay Snow is encouraging veterans and their family members to attend this important conference.
