ACA pulls away from Carbon Hill

CARBON HILL — American Christian blew open a close game in the second half, picking up a 37-16 win at Carbon Hill on Friday night.

Carbon Hill held the lead after the first quarter, but American Christian took control with 30 unanswered points.

The Patriots took a 7-0 lead on an interception return for a touchdown with 6:36 left in the first quarter.

Carbon Hill bounced back for an 8-7 lead. Jon Michael Madison connected with Dillon Roberts on a 10-yard touchdown pass. Madison hit Alex Atkins on the two-point conversion with 11:07 in the first half.

ACA regained the lead five minutes later on a 22-yard run by quarterback Lawson Pratt to take a 14-8 lead into the half.

The Patriots struck twice in the third quarter — on a 68-yard touchdown run and a 54-yard touchdown pass. ACA added another score on a 32-yard pass on the final play of the third quarter for a 34-8 lead.

ACA added a field goal and Carbon Hill scored the final touchdown with 2:37 left on a 3-yard run by Kory McGough. Matthew Wallace connected with Josh Lynn for the two-point conversion.

Carbon Hill plays at No. 4 Gordo next week.
