CORDOVA — Meek’s Caleb Aaron answered every Cordova run in the fourth quarter as the Tigers took down the Blue Devils 49-42 at Cordova High School on Thursday night.

Aaron had all 14 of Meek’s fourth-quarter points and finished with a game-high 25 in the victory.

Cordova trailed for the duration of the game, but got as close as three points in the final minute.

Aaron sealed the victory with four straight free throws to push the lead back to seven points.

Peyton Key got the Tigers off and running on Thursday.

Cordova grabbed a short-lived 3-2 lead in the opening minute of the game.

Meek responded with an 8-0 run courtesy of a basket and two 3-pointers from Key, who scored all 14 of his points in the opening quarter.

The Tigers led 19-10 after the opening quarter.

Cordova’s Kason Smith, who made six 3-pointers of his own, kept the Blue Devils within striking distance throughout. He hit back-to-back 3 pointers early in the second quarter to cut the Meek lead to 19-16. Meek’s Stuart Waldrep had five straight points to open up a seven-point lead. The Tigers held a 27-21 halftime lead.

David Tidwell’s 3-pointer gave Meek another seven-point lead in the third quarter, but Cordova again battled back. Smith’s 3-pointer with five seconds left in the period cut the Meek lead to 35-30 going into the fourth.

The Tigers led by as many as 10 points at 45-35 with three minutes to go after an Aaron basket, but Kam Cooper knocked down a basket, a 3-pointer and made two free throws to cut the gap to 45-42 with 33 seconds remaining.

That would be as close as the Blue Devils would get.

For Meek (14-7), Key finished with 14 points and Waldrep had seven.

Smith had 18 for Cordova, Cooper added 13 and Jacob Headrick scored seven points.

Cordova travels to Haleyville for an area game tonight.
