The suspect reportedly knocked on the door of a home on the 1200 block of 3rd Avenue South around 6 p.m. When the home’s occupant answered the door, Rowe said the teenager allegedly brandished a handgun and asked for money. Rowe said the suspect took $160 and a cell phone and fled the scene on foot.
Jasper police responded to the residence. A short time later, police noticed an individual matching the description of the suspect walking near the Walker County Courthouse, where the teen was taken into custody. He was transported to the Jasper Police Department.
Rowe said the quick response of Jasper officers was a determining factor in the quick arrest.
“The officers who responded to this incident did an outstanding job,” she said.
Rowe said the suspect could be charged as an adult, but that would be determined by the Walker County District Attorney’s Office.
