The FBI and the Walker County Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help in their quest to identify the person who robbed the Traders & Farmers Bank in Curry Friday afternoon.

Sgt. Darrell Mote, an investigator with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office, said a white male carrying two backpacks entered the bank around 3:26 p.m. Friday, waving a weapon and demanding keys to the vault.

“The suspect was wearing a black ski mask and goggles over his face, gloves on his hands and was dressed in a black hooded shirt and khaki-colored cargo pants,” Mote said. “As he entered the bank he pointed some type of black weapon at the tellers and demanded the keys to the bank’s vault.”

Mote said the suspect then entered the bank’s vault, took an undetermined amount of cash and exited the building out a back door.

“The suspect may have left the scene on foot, but we’re not sure. We don’t have any type of vehicle description, so we don’t know if he fled on foot or jumped into in a vehicle,” Mote said. “We’re working the case in conjunction with the FBI, and we’re all hoping someone may have either saw something Friday afternoon or has maybe heard something since then that can help us identify this suspect.”

Mote said after viewing surveillance video, the suspect appears to be in his mid-30s, about 6-foot tall and weighing approximately 250 pounds.

If anyone has any information regarding the suspect or the armed robbery, they are being asked to contact Sgt. Darrell Mote with the Walker County Sheriff’s Office at 205-302-6464; or CrimeStoppers of Metro Alabama at 205-254-7777. You may also submit a tip online at www.crimestoppersmetroal.com.
