Sky lanterns and balloons will also be released Friday night in memory or honor of those diagnosed with cancer.
“Our plan is to do a block party celebration, like a mini Relay,” organizer Rachel Simmons said.
More than 500 luminarias were purchased this year. Heavy rain during the event on May 17 resulted in the luminaria ceremony being postponed, although other activities went on as scheduled.
Opening remarks will begin Friday at 6 p.m. Local cancer survivors will be recognized at 6:30 p.m. The band Road Trip Jones will perform at 7 p.m.
The lighting ceremony will be held at 10 p.m.
Concessions, inflatables and other fundraising opportunities will also be part of the celebration.
Proceeds will be added to the local group’s current fundraising goal, $120,000.
Relay for Life benefits the American Cancer Society.
