The American Red Cross has established two outreach centers to assist residents affected by strong storms on March 18.

Volunteers are helping clients fill out the paperwork required to receive assistance at Farmstead Baptist Church and Empire Fire Department.

The centers will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Thursday. Storm victims should bring identification and proof of residency.

Pam Fikes, director of the Walker-Marion chapter, urged families who are in need to go to the center nearest them.

“The Red Cross is doing cases to determine what people need and giving financial assistance based on need,” Fikes said.

Assessments conducted last week found 132 homes affected by the storms. Seventeen were destroyed, 42 suffered major damage and 73 had minor damage.
