Haleigh Lane was happy to provide it.
Lane belted a three-run home run over the center field fence in the bottom of the fourth inning, leading Curry to a 10-0, five-inning victory over Florence. The Yellow Jackets scored nine runs over the final two innings.
Before Lane’s long ball, the Yellow Jackets held a slim 1-0 lead. Her blast came on a 1-2 pitch and drove in both Taylor Black and Gabby Englebert for a 4-0 lead.
Curry, ranked No. 4 in Class 5A, pushed across three more runs for a 7-0 lead after the fourth inning. The Jackets added three more in the fifth to finish off Florence.
At the plate, Lane finished 1 for 1 with two walks, a home run and three RBIs, Shannon Rowe was 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Shawna Rowe was 1 for 3 with an RBI, Kaylee Horton was 1 for 4 with two RBIs, Emily Aaron was 1 for 2 with a double and Taylor Black was 1 for 3. Holli McGinnis started the game and went three innings to earn the victory. Ashley Swindle pitched the final two innings and picked up the save.
The Yellow Jackets begin play in the Gulf Shores Tournament on Monday.
Cordova 11, Winston County 0, 5 innings
Class 3A, No. 7 Cordova’s Faith Sims proved to be flawless in the Lady Blue Devils’ (11-4-1, 1-1) 11-0 victory over the Winston County Yellow Jackets on Thursday at Cordova.
The Cordova ace pitched five shutout innings, giving up no hits or walks and striking out 13 Winston County batters.
At the plate for the Blue Devils, Maggie Benson was 3 for 4 with two runs scored and an RBI, while Sims went 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI.
Ansley Ardoin was 1 for 1 with two RBIs and two walks. Cordova hosts a six-team tournament on Saturday.
Parrish routs Vina in double header
The Class 1A, sixth-ranked Parrish Lady Tornadoes (10-4) turned in a dominant performance in a double header against Vina, posting 18-0 and 16-1 victories on Thursday at Vina. Jamie Beth Hocutt picked up the win in the first game, pitching three shutout innings with two hits and six strikeouts. Meleah Smith got the win in the second game, pitching four shutout innings with one hit and eight strikeouts.
At the plate, Hocutt was a combined 6 for 7 with eight RBIs through the two games, while Nina Tucker went 4 for 6 with three RBIs. Makenze Morgan was 4 for 8 with three RBIs.
Carbon Hill 10, Lynn 9
Carbon Hill scored four runs in the top of the seventh to make up a three-run deficit and beat Lynn 10-9 on the road Thursday.
The Bulldogs’ rally helped snap a seven-game losing streak. Carbon Hill pounded out 11 hits led by Tessa Ivey who was 2 for 3 with two runs, a home run and three RBIs. Caroline Dodd was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI, Kenna Alexander was 2 for 4 with a run and two RBIs, Jessica Hurst finished 2 for 3 with an RBI, Meagan Bice was 1 for 3 with two runs, Katie Moore was 1 for 3 with a run, Makaela Mote was 1 for 4 with an RBI. Korey Tidwell, Abby Tittle and Savanna Lawson each scored runs.
Ansley Madison got the win. She gave up 14 hits while striking out eight in seven innings.
Winfield 5, Sumiton Christian 0
In a battle of ranked teams, Winfield’s Maddie Moore struck out 12 Sumiton Christian batters and allowed just one hit as the Pirates picked up a 5-0 home win over the Eagles Thursday evening. Sumiton Christian, ranked No. 3 in Class 1A, has lost back-to-back games after falling to Lynn last week. Winfield is ranked No. 4 in Class 3A.
For the Eagles, Jenna Ergle had the lone hit, a double.
Kendall Beth Sides suffered the loss, allowing seven hits and two earned runs while striking out five.
Dora 12, Carbon Hill 10
Kelsey Rhodes hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Dora to come-from-behind 12-10 home win over Carbon Hill on Wednesday.
Carbon Hill led 9-7 going into the sixth inning before Dora rallied to earn its second win of the season. Dora scored one run to cut the gap to 9-8 before Rhodes’ grand slam.
For Dora, Jasmine McRoy was 2 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, Madison Hargrove was 2 for 3 with a run and two RBIs. McRoy got the win, allowing four earned runs and striking out four. Dora (2-9, 1-1) plays in the Cordova Tournament on Saturday.
