CORDOVA — The Cordova Blue Devils and the Class 1A, No. 3 Parrish Tornadoes wrapped up their respective regular seasons on Friday night, with the Tornadoes beating the Blue Devils 70-33 at Cordova.

Barry Hill led Parrish in scoring with 19 points, five rebounds and one blocked shot, while Jermichael Harris contributed with 15 points and seven steals. Seventh-grader Isaac Chatman scored 11 points with four rebounds for the Tornadoes.

Cordova’s Jamaal Cooper, one of three team members honored at the Blue Devils’ Senior Night, scored 13 points and had three steals to lead the team.

Parrish rotated virtually every member of its team throughout the contest — providing ample time for each player to work different offensive and defensive sets, as well giving the squad additional time to rest, according to Tornadoes coach Heath Burns.

“The past two weeks have been a real test of endurance for us, as our schedule as consisted of nine games in the past 14 days,” Burns said.

“Tonight was a chance for us to work with different combinations of players who are not often on the court together in game situation and get our guys some rest at the same time. We’ve experienced road blocks this year in the way of foul trouble, so it’s vital that we have our kids prepared for missing certain members of our team when those challenges arise.”

Parrish posted a 17-8 lead in the first period, then outscored Cordova 26-11 in the second period for the 43-19 halftime advantage.

The Tornadoes remained in command in the third period, holding a 17-11 scoring edge for the 60-30 lead.

Parrish’s defense held tight in the fourth period, limiting Cordova to three points for the 70-33 final.

Parrish (24-1) will host the Area 13 tournament next week, facing the winner of the Brilliant-Lynn matchup on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. for Parrish’s Senior Night. Cordova opens the Class 3A, Area 14 tournament against the Hamilton Aggies on Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m. at Hamilton.
