Carlton is described as a white male, 6-foot, 1-inch tall and approximately 248 pounds. He has short brown hair, brown eyes and often has a goatee. He also has a surgical scar on his left shoulder. He may also be known by the alias of “Victor.” When he fled the jail, he was wearing jeans, a white t-shirt and white socks with no shoes.
The jailer pursued him on foot but eventually lost him in the wooded areas behind Bevill State Community College.
Officers spent much of the day Tuesday looking for him and may call in the U.S. Marshalls for assistance in apprehending him.
“We are also asking for the public’s help in returning this offender to custody,” Assistant Police Chief Scott Karr said.
Carlton was in Sumiton jail on five counts of failure to appear on misdemeanor charges. He also has a felony warrant and four other misdemeanor warrants pending for various drug charges and obstructing justice. He will now be facing an additional felony charge for escape.
He has past misdemeanor arrests and convictions for substance-related charges and failures to appear and pay fines. Although his address is listed as Fultondale, past criminal history and relationships in the area show a strong link to the east Walker area.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to call Sumiton Police at (205) 648-3261 or text (205) 234-5045.
