The pastor of Walker County’s newest church is inviting everyone to the first service this weekend.

Included on New Generation Ministries’ invitation list are alcoholics, adulterers, homosexuals, those who prefer sweat pants to suits and anyone who has lost sight of Jesus Christ through the lens of religion.

“We’re not about legalism and chasing people to hell. We want to love them to heaven,” pastor T.J. Armstrong said.

Armstrong has been an evangelist in the Church of God of Prophecy for three years.

Recently he felt led to plant a new church in Jasper that would seek “a revival of relationship.”

New Generation Ministries will be housed at the Community Health System Building downtown. Services will be held at 11 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Sunday.

Armstrong feels a particular burden for providing an environment in which the unchurched can receive spiritual guidance free of condemnation.

He will be preaching that all are sinners and on equal ground at the foot of the cross.

“We are a church of love, and we believe that when people hear the word of God, the Holy Spirit will cleanse them from the inside out,” Armstrong said.
