Getting back to the Final Four won’t be easy.
Carbon Hill (22-9) opens the Central Regional Tournament against Handley (24-7) at 7:30 p.m. in the second 4A boys contest of the day at Alabama State University. The Bulldogs have been up and down since losing the Walker County Tournament to Parrish.
Carbon Hill needed a second-half rally to knock off Corner in the Class 4A, Area 8 Tournament and the Bulldogs followed with a loss to Dora in the area tournament championship game. Carbon Hill kept its season alive with a road win over Calera in the sub-regional round.
The Bulldogs are led by 6-foot-4, junior swingman Gerald Smith, who had 28 points in the win over Calera. Carbon Hill, which is 9-2 in its last 11 games, has five seniors on the squad: Garrett Kirkland, Jon Bray, Isaac Slaton, Ryan Simerly and Daniel Woodard.

After playing state power Butler in their regional opener last year, the Dora Bulldogs get No. 1 Dallas County today in this year’s regional opener. The teams tip off at 4:30 p.m. at Alabama State University.
