Over the last few years we’ve had several residents of Walker County (and even those with ties to the county) appear in reality TV programs.

Eric ‘Butterbean’ Esch, Shane ‘Bucket’ Tucker, Roy Wooley and Taylor Hicks gave us reason to cheer on someone we knew who was appearing on TV.

Now we have Shelbie Z, who’s ripping apart the competition on NBC’s popular singing competition ‘The Voice.’

Beginning Monday, Jasper’s Shelbie Z will be competing in the live rounds of competition on ‘The Voice,’ and it’s up to us to cast our votes each week to keep her on the show and in contention to win this year’s top prize.

On Tuesday, Roy Wooley — a graduate of T.W. Martin High School and a Goodsprings native — will compete in the finals of the SyFy channel’s hit series ‘FaceOff,’ a reality series pitting some of the nation’s best special effects makeup artists. Wooley made it to the final three last week.

In both cases, we need to cheer on our hometown folks and wish them the very best. Both are making Walker County proud.

And in Shelbie Z’s case, let’s cast a vote to make sure she stays on the show and makes us proud.
