The current virus can spread through contact of infected items such as hands, door handles, toilets and contaminated linen. It can also spread through the air from toilet flushing, vomitus, coughing and sneezing.
The virus can also be spread before any symptoms show.
The new strain of norovirus is hard to kill. Only bleach will disinfect properly.
With most any virus, hand washing is the most effective way to prevent its spread. With this current virus, it’s basically the only way.
Hand sanitizer and sanitary wipes are not very effective against the virus. Over the counter Clorox wipes are sufficient.
An antibacterial soap is recommended with this bug, and the Centers for Disease Control suggests to vigorously wash hands for 20 to 30 seconds to get rid of the virus and prevent its spread.
There is no specific treatment for the virus. Only the symptoms (fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, dehydration and respiratory issues) can be treated.
If area residents show any of these symptoms, stay and home. While you’re at home, don’t forget to WASH YOUR HANDS.
