Three area high school football teams are ranked in the preseason high school football poll released Tuesday night by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

Oakman is ranked No. 6 in Class 2A, Dora holds down No. 8 in Class 4A and Addison is No. 6 in Class 1A.

Oakman, which is coming off a 10-2 season in 2012 has most of its offensive weapons back including quarterback Jase Trotter, wide receivers Quinton Harris and Deontre Muse as well as All-State defensive back Purvis Coger and All-State honorable mention offensive lineman Zach Fondren.

The Wildcats closed last season as the No. 8 team after nine straight regular-season wins. Parrish knocked off the Wildcats in last year’s season opener. Oakman didn’t lose again until falling to Mobile Christian in the second round of the state playoffs.

Tanner, last year’s Class 2A state champion, holds down the No. 1 spot followed by: Washington County, Reeltown, Walter Wellborn, Fyffe, Oakman, Mobile Christian, G.W. Long, Lanett and Woodland.

In Class 4A, Dora enters the season ranked No. 8 after last season’s run to the state semifinals.

Eventual state champion UMS-Wright knocked off the Bulldogs 35-21.

Dora entered the 2012 postseason with a No. 6 ranking following a 9-1 regular season. The only loss came to Class 5A Muscle Shoals. The Bulldogs finished last season 12-2, tying the 1985 and 2002 teams for the most wins in a season by a Dora football team.

Though Dora lost plenty of play makers from last year, the Bulldogs aren’t short on talent with running back DeMarcus Kirk the leading offensive weapon returning for 2013.

Week 2 could feature a top 10 showdown for the Bulldogs as they travel to third-ranked Calera. Despite finishing just 8-3 last season, the Eagles and All-State athlete Ronnie Clark open the season with a lofty ranking.

UMS-Wright is the No. 1 team in Class 4A followed by: Oneonta, Calera, Charles Henderson, Central-Clay County, Dadeville, Beauregard, Dora, Madison County and Cleburne County.

Addison opens the season at No. 6 in Class 1A. Coach David Smothers led the Bulldogs to a second-place region finish and a 7-3 mark in his first season.

Addison, which lost 14 seniors off last year’s team, returns honorable mention All-State linebacker Franky Melson for his senior season.

Also in Class 1A, Parrish was among other teams receiving votes.

Brantley holds down the No. 1 spot in 1A followed by: Marion County, Linden, Pickens County, Maplesville, Addison, R.A. Hubbard, Geneva County, Hackleburg and Berry.
