Nora Mae “Granny Mae” Martin, 88, of Jasper, passed away on Dec. 8, 2012.

She was born on Jan. 22, 1924, in Poplar Springs to Joseph and Martha Martin.

Visitation will be held today, Dec. 10, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Old Enon Missionary Baptist Church in Lynn. Rev. Mickey Crane and Rev. Jerry Boyd will officiate. Burial will be at Old Enon Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Floyd and Nora Mae brought seven children into the world: Amos Earl (1941) who lived only 2 months and 28 days, Irene (1943), Shirley Mae (1945), Carolyn Louvene (1947), Jerry Wayne (1950), Francis Ann (1953) who passed in 1967 in an automobile accident and David Lloyd Martin (1957).

Nora Mae was a lifelong member of Old Enon Missionary Baptist Church. She loved to cook. Just ask anyone about her “peppery hot” chicken dressing and fried apple pies. They were a tradition around Thanksgiving at Grandma’s. Another great family tradition was Christmas Eve at Grandma and Grandpa’s. Santa always stopped by and the house was filled with laughter and the Christmas spirit. This was the place where you would find their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. It was always a joyous occasion filled with great memories.

We are rejoicing today, and with saddened hearts to let go of our precious mother, but our memories of her will live on forever in our hearts.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Michael Brassfield, Wiregrass/Gentiva Hospice and our extended family, special caregiver, David Wilson, for the care of our mom throughout the years.

Pallbearers will be: Patrick McKeever, Christopher Shane McKeever, Jeremy Martin, Jerome Martin, Scott Duncan and Tracy Duncan.

Honorary Pallbearers will be: Charles Domnic McKeever, Matthew Hann, Nathan Duncan, P.J. Gossett, David Wilson, Seth Cheetham and Michael Johnson
