A motorcyclist was still in critical, unstable condition Friday afternoon after being involved in a fiery collision Thursday in Cordova.

Police Chief Nick Smith said the wreck occurred around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of First Street and Amory Avenue.

The accident involved a motorcycle and a van, and both vehicles caught on fire.

Witnesses pulled the owner out of the flames and used a garden hose to put him out, according to Smith.

Lifesaver was called to the scene, and the driver of the motorcycle was taken to UAB Hospital. He has not been identified.

Law enforcement had some leads but had yet to obtain a positive identification of the individual by press time on Friday.

The driver of the van was released from the hospital on Thursday, according to Smith.

The Cordova Police Department, Cordova Fire and Rescue, Regional Paramedical Services and Alabama State Troopers responded to the wreck.
