Kidnap, sex crimes among Nov. indictments

Editor’s Note: This is the first of a series that will include the indictments issued by a Walker County Grand Jury on Nov. 19, 2013. All those listed here are presumed innocent unless proven otherwise in a court of law.

A long list of indictments from the November grand jury includes three men charged with kidnapping and/or sexual assault, as well as many others who were indicted for other charges.

Charlie O’Neal Peterson, 74, of Dora, was indicted in November on charges of kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault and second-degree assault.

Peterson allegedly abducted the victim, held her against her will, grabbed and pulled her hair, threw her on his bed, struck her with his walking cane and grabbed her by the throat as well as subjecting her to sexual contact by forcible compulsion.

In a separate case, Cedrick Dramane Harris, 29, of Sipsey, was indicted on charges of first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery and kidnapping.

The charges stem from an incident where Harris allegedly beat Leonard Curtis King in the face and head with the wooden stock of a shotgun, illegally entered the residence of King in order to commit the crime and robbed King of approximately $200 cash and a .32 caliber handgun.

Another case indicted Bryan Michael Freeman, 33, of Jasper, on charges of second-degree sexual abuse, sexual torture and second-degree sodomy. The case stems from an incident in September of 2012, where Freeman allegedly had sexual intercourse, sodomized and used an inanimate object to penetrate a defendant who was younger than 16, but more than 12-years old.

Also indicted were:

•Jamaal Christmas, 27, of Jasper, for unlawful distribution of controlled substance and first-degree possession of marijuana for allegedly selling, furnishing or giving away marijuana in February of 2010.

In a separate indictment, Christmas was also indicted on one count of first-degree marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in July 2009 for allegedly having a large quantity of marijuana, for other than personal use and allegedly having two sets of digital scales and one marijuana grinder and/or baggies.

•Jeffery Watts, 22, of Cordova, for first-degree theft of property in a case where he allegedly stole one large blue sapphire ring, one February birthstone ring, one gold-plated ring, one tanzanite ring, one princess-cut diamond ring, one blue sapphire ring and one gold coin ring from Karrin Ann Trentham in excess of $2,500 in value.

•Nicholas Dean Williams, 27, of Jasper, for second-degree receiving stolen property by allegedly receiving, retaining or disposing of a 1993 Chevrolet Corsica, valued between $500 and $2,500 dollars, belonging to Stacy Jean Wise Farmer, while knowing or having reasonable grounds to believe it was stolen.

•Zachary Elonza Allison, 29, of Nauvoo, for possession or receipt of controlled substances (methadone and oxycodone) and possession of drug paraphernalia (allegedly pill bottles, spoons, baggies and straws with residue, as well as syringes).

•Teddy Joe Bailey Jr., 27, of Centreville, for third-degree assault, third-degree burglary and one count of intimidating a witness for allegedly striking Sharon Harrison in the face in the forehead, as well as entering or remaining unlawfully in a building with an intent to commit that assault. He also allegedly threatened Harrison in an attempt to prevent her from testifying.

•Bert Christopher Bowers Jr, 22, of Jasper, for second-degree receiving stolen property by allegedly receiving, retaining or disposing of a Franchi 20-gauge shotgun, a Winshester model 20 16-gauge shotgun and a Benelli Super 90 12-gauge shotgun, valued between $500 and $2,500 dollars, belonging to Billy Odom, while knowing or having reasonable grounds to believe it was stolen.

•William Carlile, 55, of Birmingham, for second-degree possession of a forged instrument and second-degree theft of property, for allegedly forging a check at Sons’s Supermarket and for allegedly obtaining $628.83 by deception from Son’s Supermarket.

•Jasmine Monay Casey, 24, of Jasper, for second-degree receiving stolen property by allegedly receiving, retaining or disposing of a black iPad, valued between $500 and $2,500 dollars, belonging to the Jasper Board of Education, while knowing or having reasonable grounds to believe it was stolen.

•Lloyd Chatman Jr, 41, of Jasper, for second-degree domestic violence assault and third-degree domestic violence assault in an incident where he allegedly stabbed one person in the shoulder and hit another in the head with a phone.

•Billy Frank Cook, 35, of Jasper, for fraudulent use of a credit card and second-degree theft of property, for allegedly attempting to use a People’s Bank VISA debit card and two prepaid Visa cards worth $100 each with knowledge that they were stolen or he was not authorized to use them.

•James W. Connison Jr, 38, Albertville, for first-degree sexual abuse and harassment.

•Nicholas Brandt Cummings, 35, of Cordova, for third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, third-degree theft of property and second-degree possession of a forged instrument, for allegedly entering Boldo Crown with intent to commit a crime, damaging the front glass door of the business, taking more than 40 packs of Newport cigarettes and forging a check.

•Mellany Rachelle Daughdrill, 22, of Jasper, for second-degree possession of a forged instrument for allegedly passing a check she knew was forged in the amount of $481.16.

•Jeremy Keith Daniel, 26, of Jasper, for second-degree theft of property by deception for allegedly obtaining by deception control over gift cards or cash belonging to J.C. Penneys, Inc., valued between $500 and $2,500.

•Vandarius Shamar Darnell, 32, of Birmingham, for attempted murder and first-degree assault after he allegedly shot Bradley L. McCollum with a hand gun, intending to cause serious physical injury or death.

•Mallery Nichole Daughdrill, 24, of Jasper, for obstruction of justice.

•Tarshelle Lerrain Davis, 33, of Quinton, for third-degree escape, for allegedly attempting to escape from the custody of Dora Police Officer Ronnie Phillips.

•Andy Eugene Dozier, 50, of Nauvoo, for second-degree arson, after he allegedly set or maintained a fire to a building owned by Andy and Deborah Dozier with the intent of collecting insurance proceeds for the building.

•Deborah Grimes Dozier, 50, of Nauvoo, for second-degree arson, after she allegedly set or maintained a fire to a building owned by Andy and Deborah Dozier with the intent of collecting insurance proceeds for the building.

•Christopher Wayne Dutton, 37, of Dora, for third-degree burglary, first-degree theft of property, attempting to elude and reckless driving.

The burglary charges stem from the defendant allegedly entering Barbara Ann’s Store with the intent to commit a crime and stealing 78 cartons of cigarettes and 58 rolls of Skoal, valued at more than $2,500.

In a separate indictment, Dutton was also charged with third-degree escape and attempting to elude after he allegedly escaped and fled on foot from Walker County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Drummond.

•William Elvis Ethridge, 27, of Quinton, for possession or receipt of controlled substance, first-degree possession of marijuana for personal use and possession of drug paraphernalia for allegedly having carisaprodol and a small quantity of marijuana for personal use (charge upgraded to first-degree because of previous convictions) and for allegedly having pipes and rolling papers used for marijuana.

•Larry Jeffery Farris, 42, of Jasper, for possession or receipt of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

•Roger Wayne Franklin, 31, of Dora, for third-degree burglary, second-degree receiving stolen property and first-degree criminal mischief for allegedly entering or remaining in the building of Jason Atkins with the intent to commit a crime and removing a stove, water heater, copper pipe and two breaker boxes, valued between $500 and $2,500, causing damage to the property in excess of $2,500.

•Wendy Michelle Gilbert, 45, of Arley, for third-degree theft of property, for allegedly taking more than $19,000 in cash from Smith Lake BP.

•Tim Donald Glaze, 20, of Oakman, for second-degree burglary, second-degree theft of property, third-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property.

•Janel Roxanne Godwin, 25, of Carbon Hill, for second-degree theft of property.

•Tracie Jones Graves, 41, of Parrish, for possession or receipt of a controlled substance.

•Benjamin Scott Guthrie, 27, of Jasper, for second-degree receiving stolen property.

•Shawnee Kay Gilbert, 21, of Carbon Hill, for first-degree theft of property.

•Terrence Lee Hankins, 24, of Jasper, for possession or receipt of controlled substance.

•Reginald Harris, 58, of Jasper, for third-degree burglary, first-degree theft of property, first-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools.
