TUSCALOOSA — Alabama junior left-handed pitcher Justin Kamplain was named the SEC Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. In his only appearance of the week, Kamplain earned the win after throwing 8 2/3 innings in a 4-1 Crimson Tide victory over Auburn on Saturday.

In is ninth start of the season, Kamplain turned in the longest outing of the week by an Alabama pitcher, going a career-high 8.2 innings against the Tigers, allowing a run on three hits with five strikeouts, three walks and three hit batters.

Kamplain, the former Walker High School star, had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning, before the Tigers got a bunt single with no outs and a runner on first. That would be the only hit he allowed until the ninth inning, when Auburn struck for a run on two hits before Kamplain could record the final out of the game.

This season, Kamplain is 3-2 with a 3.57 ERA and leads the team and ranks sixth in the SEC with 51 strikeouts in 53.0 innings. He is holding opponents to a .201 batting average, which is the ninth best in the conference.

This week’s pitcher of the week honor is the second conference award Kamplain has earned in his career, as he was selected at the SEC Freshman of the Week back on March 26, 2012.

Kamplain is the fourth player to earn a conference weekly award this year, as Thomas Burrows was the freshman of the week on March 17, Jon Keller was the pitcher of the week on March 31 and Hunter Webb was the SEC Freshman of the Week on April 7.

Missouri’s Eric Anderson was named the SEC Player of the Week and Florida’s A.J. Puk was selected as the conference freshman of the week.

The Crimson Tide returns to the diamond on Tuesday night with a game against the Jackson State Tigers, with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT from Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
