Jasper police have confirmed that the death of a Jasper woman earlier this week is under investigation.

Magenda White, 49, died July 7 after an alleged altercation at her home two days earlier.

According to sources close to the investigation, White went to the emergency room at Walker Baptist Medical Center Saturday to be checked out after suffering a blow to the head, allegedly during the altercation.

She was released from the hospital, but she died early Monday.

Walker County Coroner J.C. Poe said White’s body was sent for an autopsy at the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, but declined to comment further, citing JPD’s ongoing investigation.

Jasper police have arrested Travis Moore, 25, of Jasper, in connection with this case. Moore is currently charged with second-degree assault and second-degree kidnapping. Police Chief Connie Cooner Rowe said her department's investigation into the case will continue and more charges may be added in the future.

Moore is being held in the Walker County Jail on $100,000 cash bond.

Jasper police are also investigating an alleged attack on White’s daughter at Burger King last Saturday.

Rowe said the department was seeking two black females who may have witnessed the alleged assault and who helped the victim following the incident.

Anyone with information on either investigation is asked to call the Jasper Police Department at 221-2121.
