Law enforcement officials spent much of the day Tuesday investigating a shooting that occurred during what authorities believe was a domestic dispute between family members that left one man dead.

Sgt. Tim Thomas of the Walker County Sheriff’s Office said Nicholas Cody Stimpson, 26, of Oakman, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting which occurred at a home located in the 3800 block of Prospect Road in Nauvoo.

Thomas said investigators were called just after 3:30 a.m. Tuesday to the home in Nauvoo and found Stimpson with a gunshot wound.

“He reportedly showed up at the residence armed with a weapon, kicked in the front door and when he entered the residence, the homeowner shot and killed him,” Thomas said Tuesday afternoon.

Stimpson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Walker County Coroner’s Office. His body has been sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences where an autopsy will be performed

No charges have been filed against the homeowner, who was not identified.

The case was turned over to the Walker County District Attorney’s office, Thomas said.
