The Daily Mountain Eagle will launch its 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards balloting on New Year’s Day this Tuesday. In all, we will print and distribute more than 50,000 ballots during the first two weeks of January.
The ballots will appear in five issues of the Daily Mountain Eagle – Jan. 1, 3, 8, 10 and 15. Extra copies of the ballot will be available at our office at 1301 East Viking Dr. here in Jasper.
The full-page, full-color ballot features five primary voting groups, including Best in Walker County, Best Place to Purchase, Best Food, Best Business and Best Professionals.
The 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards gives you the opportunity to select the Best of the Best in Walker County, from financial institutions to funeral homes, from barbeque restaurants to tire shops, from pharmacies to consignment shops, from auto dealerships to tanning salons. You name it; it is likely on the ballot.
We want your votes. If you complete at least 50 percent of the ballot, your name will be included in a drawing for a 12-month subscription to the Daily Mountain Eagle.
Contest entry rules include:
1) One entry per person. Name, address and phone number must be included for ballot to be counted. Such information will not be published.
2) Only original ballots published in the Daily Mountain Eagle or purchased at our office will be counted.
3) Businesses and professionals nominated must be located in Walker County.
4) Ballots must be received by close of business Friday, Jan. 25. Ballots may be mailed to or dropped off at: Daily Mountain Eagle, 1301 East Viking Dr., Jasper, AL 35501.
The top three vote getters in each category will be announced Thursday, Feb. 28, in our special keepsake 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards edition. Each winning business will also have the opportunity to say “Thank You” to the readers for voting them the best in their respective category.
In addition to a listing in the keepsake edition, all first-, second- and third-place finishers will receive a 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards certificate from the Daily Mountain Eagle that may be displayed in their place of business.
All first-place winners that purchase a “Thank You” ad in the keepsake issue Feb. 28 will also receive a yard sign recognizing them as the Best of the Best. First-place winners will also be able to use the blue 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards ribbon in any advertising they choose during the entire year.
After years of publishing readers’ choice awards, I encourage businesses to be proactive in campaigning for votes. Send notices out to your long-time customers electronically via Facebook, Twitter or old-fashioned email. You may even pick up additional ballots at our office for distribution at your business. Each ballot costs 50 cents, the same cost of purchasing a newspaper on the days the ballot is published.
If you have been in business for decades, do not assume your customers will automatically vote for your business. Again, be proactive during the balloting process.I hope you enjoy participating in the 2013 Readers’ Choice Awards balloting process. Don’t miss the first wave of ballots this Tuesday!
