The two rivals will play a decisive game 3 of the series scheduled for 2 p.m. today.
Cordova had its way in the opener, beating Winfield 9-0.
Senior pitcher Andrew Minor tossed a three-hit shutout, allowing one walk while striking out six.
In game 2, Winfield built a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the seventh inning only to have Cordova push the Pirates to the limit.
Cordova (27-10) loaded the bases with one out and scored runs on Minor’s bases loaded walk and a single by Logan Shumate. That was as close as the Blue Devils got.
Winfield (27-9) got out of the jam behind relief pitcher Alex Smothers, who earned the save.
The teams have now played five games this year with Winfield winning three times by a total of five runs.
In Friday’s opener, Minor got the win and led the team at the plate, going 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs, Cam Honeycutt was 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI and Jeffre Wingo was 1 for 2 with three RBIs. Zac Guerra walked three times and Hunter Gilmore drew two walks.
Cordova scored a run in the first inning when Guerra walked and scored on an error. The Blue Devils added a pair of runs in the third inning and put the game away with two in the fifth and three in the sixth for an 8-0 lead.
Terran Cochran took the loss for Winfield after lasting 5 1/3 innings.
Jared Pollard was 2 for 3 for Winfield while Hunter Addison was 1 for 3.
In the second game, Winfield built a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth. Cordova cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning.
The Pirates made the score 5-2 after adding an important insurance run in the top of the seventh inning.
In the bottom of the inning, Chance Clark led off with a single. After Guerra reached on a fielder’s choice, Stephen Kilpatrick walked to load the bases. Minor followed with a walk to make the score 5-3 and Shumate drove in Honeycutt with a single to make the score 5-4.
Winfield retired the next two batters to close out the win.
Winfield’s Matthew Gamble got the win on the mound, allowing two runs in 4 1/3 innings. He gave up just two hits and struck out two Cordova batters. Smothers got the save, pitching the final 2 2/3 innings.
Wingo got the start and took the loss for the Blue Devils, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out four. Chad Russell pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief for Cordova. Chance went the final 1/3.
At the plate, Cordova had just five hits with Minor, Honeycutt, Wingo, Shumate and Taylor Trotter each reaching on singles. Minor, Trotter, Chance and Shumate had the RBIs for Cordova.
For Winfield, Pollard was 2 for 3 with a triple, Mason Osborn was 1 for 3 with two RBIs, Tim Bradford was 1 for 3 with a double and an RBI and Smothers was 1 for 2 with an RBI. Nicholas Roberts, Jacob Elkins and Michael Jenkins added hits.
