The talents of Walker County native Edie Hand and many of her friends from the country music industry will be on display on national television Sunday evening.

“Holiday Memories with Edie Hand & the Nashville Stars” will air Sunday at 5 p.m. on RFD-TV, which is DirecTv Channel 354.

The show is a holiday tradition for Hand.

“This is something that we’ve done for a long time,” Hand said Friday in a phone interview from Beverly Hills. “I look forward to putting this special together the entire year. It’s great to get together with friends and record their favorite Christmas memories.”

Hand was in California to be with her son, Linc Hand, an actor in the upcoming film “42,” which is based on the life of baseball great Jackie Robinson.

“Linc hurt his knee and was having surgery today, so I flew out here to be with him,” she said. “We’ll be watching the holiday special together Sunday night.”

This year’s edition of “Holiday Memories” is celebrating Christmas as well as highlighting the work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.

“This one-hour television special brings awareness to the important work that St. Jude’s does,” Hand said. “There will even be an opportunity for anyone watching to call in and donate to the hospital.”

Hand said “Holiday Memories” will feature several country music stars, including Ray Stevens, Billy Dean, Ronnie McDowell, the Oak Ridge Boys and Candy Christmas. Much of the special was filmed on locaton in Brentwood, Tenn., at the home of Dale Smith Thomas. Hand said other parts of the special were filmed on location across the country.

“Since 1999, we’ve had just about everyone in country music on these holiday programs, and I think we’ve got a great group this year,” Hand said.

“Holiday Memories” will also air on Rural TV on Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. The Christmas special will air locally on the Alabama Cable Network, Charter Cable Channel 80 on Dec. 16 and 23 at 1 p.m. and Dec. 25 at 1 p.m.

“We’re going to be on all over the world. The program will air across the United States as well as in Austrailia, Switzerland and the United Kingdom,” Hand said. “I just hope folks tune in and enjoy the show. I hope it is inspiring and inspires people to do what they can to help St. Jude.”
