A Christmas giveaway set for Dec. 15 is designed to provide holiday cheer for youth in the Parrish area.

The third annual Parrish Christmas Giveaway will take place at Parrish High School, and organizers expect to help more than 100 children this year. Each child registered for the giveaway will receive new toys, jackets, shoes, gloves, underwear, socks and a knit cap.

“We’ve signed up 95 kids so far,” said Bubba Cagle, one of the organizers of the event. “The sign ups ended last week, but we expect to get a few more.”

Cagle said children signed up for the giveaway through Parrish Elementary School.

“Everything we give away is new,” he said. “I would estimate it costs about $100 per child.”

Organizers are asking for donations to help with the giveaway. Dropoff points for items include Bank of Parrish, Son’s Pharmacy in Parrish, Teresia’s Family Restaurant in Parrish, Gunter’s Body Shop in Jasper, Check-Into-Cash in Jasper, Capstone Clinic in Parrish and Po Man’s Antiques and Signs in Parrish. Each location will also accept cash donations for the giveaway.

Volunteers are also needed for the night before and the day of the giveaway, Cagle said.

“We probably need volunteers as much or more than we need items and money,” he said. “Any church groups or individuals who would like to help are more than welcome.”

Despite relying solely on volunteers, Cagle said he has faith the giveaway can meet the needs of the children of Parrish.

“The first year, we were able to help 50 children and organized it in 17 days. Last year, we helped 100 kids,” Cagle said. “We’re all faithful that things will be fine. We feel like God has called us to do this. If we do our part, we believe He will do His.”
