Chamber Checks are gift checks that may be used at any of the more than 200 chamber-member businesses in Walker County.
“This is a unique program designed to encourage people to shop at home and pump money back into our local economy,” said Linda Lewis, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Walker County.
Chamber Checks are available in $10 increments and may be purchased Monday through Friday at the chamber office inside the Community Health Systems Activities Center in downtown Jasper.
Lewis said the checks make a great holiday gift, because of the options they offer the recipient.
“Gift cards are great, but it limits the person who it is given to,” Lewis said. “Chamber Checks can be used at more than 200 locations, and they don’t have to be used at one place. That gives someone a lot of options of where to use them.”
The chamber provides an information brochure and a list of participating businesses when Chamber Checks are purchased. Some participating businesses include Jasper Walmart, Alabama Power, Belk, Goody’s, Son’s Supermarket, Pet Depot, Posey’s, Zaxby’s and Jim ‘N’ Nicks.
“It’s a long list of business, and it’s not just for retail. There are dental offices, urgent care offices, drug stores and even the hospital,” Lewis said.
This holiday season marks the fourth year for the Chamber Checks program. Lewis said the checks have increased in popularity each year. This year, Lewis said more than $20,000 in Chamber Checks have already been purchased.
“With this much money already being earmarked to be spent in our county, it is a great time for a business to become a member of the Chamber,” she said.
