CORNER — Carbon Hill remained on a collision course with Dora following a pair of wins at Corner High School on Tuesday.

The Bulldogs improved to 4-1 in area play after a three-set sweep of Corner. Carbon Hill opened the day with a straight-set win over Oakman.

Carbon Hill plays at Dora on Tuesday with the area title up for grabs.

Dora (5-0 in area play) won the first meeting and stayed perfect with a win at Oak Grove on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Carbon Hill knocked off the Yellow Jackets 25-15, 25-8, 25-13. Tessa Ivey had 12 kills, five digs and four aces for the Bulldogs (24-18). Molli Clark had nine kills, three digs and four aces, Savanna Lawson had nine kills, Abby Tittle had five kills and Jessica Hurst had 26 assists, five aces, four digs and two kills.

Carbon Hill opened the day with a 25-13, 25-16 victory over Oakman.

Clark had six kills, three digs and three aces, Lawson added five kills and Hurst had 10 assists for Carbon Hill.

Before their matchup with Dora, the Bulldogs play at Cordova on Thursday, beginning at 4 p.m. and head to Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa for a tournament on Saturday.

At Hillcrest, Carbon Hill’s pool includes Tuscaloosa County, Sipsey Valley and Briarwood.

Dora wins pair

Dora made quick work of both Oak Grove and Pleasant Grove in a tri-match at Oak Grove High School on Tuesday.

Dora (17-12, 5-0) defeated Oak Grove 25-17, 25-14, 25-18 in an area match.

Alexia Smith had a team-high 14 kills in the win while Hannah Wilson had 16 assists, five kills and four aces, Madisen Bencko had 20 digs and three aces, Larissa Steeley had three kills and three aces, Keola James added five kills and Lindsey Johnson had 14 digs.

Against Pleasant Grove, Steeley had six kills and two aces, Smith had six kills, Wilson had 13 assists and two aces, Bencko had nine digs, three kills and two aces and Johnson had four aces and three kills.

Dora also won a pair JV matches, beating Pleasant Grove (25-20, 25-8) and Oak Grove (25-11, 25-12).

Against Pleasant Grove, Lexi McElroy and Maddie Clayton each had four aces. In the win over Oak Grove, Kayla McKinley had four kills and Emily Owens had 10 aces.

Curry wins two matches

Curry avenged a Monday loss to Lynn with a three-set victory over the Bears Tuesday in a home tri-match against Lynn and Cordova.

The Yellow Jackets (21-13) defeated Lynn (22-25, 25-15, 15-11) and Cordova (25-22, 25-17).

Against Lynn, Josie Walker had nine kills for Curry, Holli McGinnis added eight digs and two aces, Gabby Englebert had 20 assists, Hannah Simmons had four aces, three kills and three blocks and Katie Downs had four kills.

In the Cordova match, Walker had six digs and five kills, Englebert had 19 assists, Simmons added six kills and four blocks and Taylor Rowe had five kills and two blocks.

On Monday, Lynn outlasted Curry 25-16, 25-23, 25-27, 25-27, 15-13.

In that match, McGinnis had 25 digs, four kills and three aces, Englebert had 24 assists, two digs and two kills.

Walker contributed 12 kills, 14 digs and four aces, Simmons had nine kills and three aces and Madison Holmes added 10 digs.

Curry plays at Walker beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday.
