Bobby Sherer, 74, of Dora, passed away Saturday, Aug. 10, 2013, at his home after a long struggle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial services will be Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church on Bethel Road in Dora. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11:30 until 1 p.m. at the church.

Bob was a native of Jasper and graduated from Auburn University in 1963 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He was employed by Alabama Power Company for more than 35 years at various plants, including Gadsden, E. C. Gaston, Gorgas, Greene County and the corporate office in Birmingham. He retired in January of 1997. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church where he was a Sunday school teacher, a member of Elks Lodge 1738, and he was an avid golfer and Auburn fan “through years both thick and thin.”

Preceding him in death were his parents, James Carl and Julia Studdard Sherer; brother, Henry Clyde Sherer; sister, Vivian Sherer Luke; his cousin and best friend, Bryan Sherer; and brother-in-law, Larry Cooper.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Jane Brymer Sherer; sons, M. Scott Sherer of Dora and Brian Sherer of Atlanta, Ga.; stepsons, Steve Gilchrist and his special friend, Stephanie Richardson, of Dora, and Greg Gilchrist (Susan) of Dora; grandchildren, Cooper, Lane, Madlynn and Leighton Gilchrist, all of Dora; Lane’s mother, Lisa Lane Gilchrist of Hoover; the mother of his sons, Jo Morris Sherer of Birmingham; sister, Ann Sherer Cooper of Gardendale; nieces, Kim Marsh (Warren) of Warrior and Cindy Stanley (Sam) of Meadowbrook; two great-nieces; three great-nephews; sister-in-law, Vaudie M. Sherer of Woodstock, Ga; and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Bethel Baptist Church, Wee Care Fund, 7000 Bethel Road, Dora, AL 35062; Shanghi Memorial Cemetery, P. O. Box 86, Quinton, AL 35130; or Boy Scouts Troop 120, 500 Washington City Road, Dora, AL 35062.
