The annual Friends of Scouting Luncheon, which benefits the Black Warrior Council of the Boy Scouts of America, will be held at the Community Health Systems Activities Center in downtown Jasper from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We are very excited to have Mal Moore speaking at our luncheon,” said Zac Lollar, district executive with the Black Warrior Council. “He is an Alabama Crimson Tide legend. He’s been with the school for a long time, and I’m sure he’ll have a lot of interesting things to share.”
Moore was a backup quarterback at Alabama for Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant from 1958-1962. He returned to the school as a graduate assistant on Bryant’s staff in 1964 and remained on the staff in various coaching positions until Bryant retired in 1982. He returned to Alabama in 1990 as quarterbacks coach under Coach Gene Stallings. Moore retired from coaching and entered the athletic department as assistant athletic director in 1994.
Lollar said Moore is expected to share memories of his Alabama career from his time with Bryant until this year’s national championship team.
“I just can’t wait to hear him speak,” Lollar said.
The Friends of Scouting Luncheon will be catered by Dreamland Barbecue. Lollar said a limited number of tickets are still available. The deadline to purchase tickets is today. For more information on tickets, call Lollar at 205-275-6454.
