A Jasper man was jailed Thursday on charges of sexually abusing a 3-year-old girl earlier this year.

Joel Wade Morgan, 62, was taken into custody at his home by Jasper police and charged with sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Morgan was being held in the Walker County Jail on a $30,000 property bond.

The child’s father was outraged by the bond set for Morgan.

“That’s just a slap in the face for the bond to be that small,” he said. “That’s also just putting the rest of the community in jeopardy by setting such a low bond.”

The father was not identified in order to protect the identity of the victim.

“All kids in (Morgan’s) neighborhood are in jeopardy,” he said.

The victim, who is now 4, has shown lasting effects from the trauma of being abused, her father said.

“She’s not the same happy-go-lucky little girl she was before this happened,” he said. “She’s just not the same kid. She doesn’t want to play or be around a lot of people, especially men.”
