Archer had five birdies and a pair of bogeys on Monday. He was the only competitor in the boys 16-18 division to finish under par in the two-day event that wraps up today.
A total of 90 junior golfers are playing in the tournament.
Cullman’s Trey Hanvey sits three strokes back of Archer after an even par 71. Hartselle’s Jordan Hartsell is four back at 72 followed by Guin’s Cody Maddox (73) and Hamilton’s Lance Moore (73).
Jasper’s Chase Williams is still in the mix, six strokes back after an opening round 74.
Cordova’s Brent Borden, who was the lone area golfer to make the AHSAA State Golf Tournament this season, is 15th at 79.
In the boys 14-15 division, Decatur’s Eli Denson and Luverne’s Gauge Cornelius are tied for the lead. Both golfers shot two-over par 73 on Monday. Birmingham’s Tanner Tabor is one stroke back at 74. Vernon’s Korlan Trull (77) and Florence’s Bay Simpson (79) were the only other golfers to break 80 on the day.
Competing in the 13-and-under division, Tuscumbia’s Hunter Battles had the second lowest score of the day, shooting a two-under 69 for a four-stroke lead over Sheffield’s Allen Michael Burnett entering today’s final round.
Jordan Clark of Guin shot a six-over 77 and holds a one-stroke lead over Winfield’s Molly Norris in the girls 15-19 division.
Sheffield’s Alyssa Burnett (86) holds a one-stroke advantage over Elle Patterson (87) in the 14-and-under division.
